Anxiety

Anxiety by itself is a common and natural reaction to stress. It is a reaction to new and difficult situations that people must deal with everyday to help keep a person safe and be able to cope with various situations. An anxiety disorder occurs when anxiety has become so great that a person can no longer function properly due to the overwhelming anxiety he or she is experiencing. Because there are different levels of anxiety, if you believe that you are experiencing an anxiety disorder taking a test anxiety exam is a very good idea to determine the seriousness of your problem as well as the treatment you will need.

Approximately forty million Americans suffer from anxiety disorders every year. But, not all anxiety disorders are the same nor do they grow from the same originations. For example, generalized anxiety disorder, is just what it sounds like. It is an over abundance of an anxious feeling, but it is not specific to anyone event or situation. It is anxiety that can be felt anytime or anyplace. Separation anxiety, on the other hand, is very situation specific. It is often commonly found in children who are being dropped off by their parents to school for the first time. Separation anxiety as the name suggests again, is the fear of being separated by figures in one’s life who have been comforting agents. But, it can also be separation from anything in one’s life that causes a person such high degree levels of anxiety.

In addition, social anxiety is another situation specific anxiety disorder. Social anxiety disorder is a severe and debilitating disorder that is very cyclic (as are most anxiety disorders). In other words, people who suffer from social anxiety tend to avoid social situations making them more anxious about social situations causing them to avoid them even more.

People who suffer from anxiety disorders suffer from various anxiety symptoms. A person can face everything from sweaty palms, loss of appetite, an inability to sleep, and anxiety attacks. An anxiety attack can cause a person to feel as though he or she is dying due to hyperventilation that can make it difficult to breathe. Some more anxiety attack symptoms include the reality that a person can experience extreme thoughts of fear making them nauseous, dizzy and feel like they are in a dreamlike state.

There are many different types of anxiety treatment available. Everything from therapy to anxiety medications have been known to treat and cure anxiety disorders. For your safety, when taking anxiety medication be sure to let your physician or psychiatrist know what other medications you might currently be taking.
